It's been a while....

since I posted new photos! I that realise that I posted some photos not so long ago, but this is the beginning of a big photo bender! May (maybe?) my old band played with Youth Gone Wrong (if you are paying attention I have already posted a logo design for them...and yes it was May), super nice guys and I must confess a real joy/oddity to shoot! The singer Steve kept his Mike on a stand for most of their set, which isn't exactly common place when you don't play an instrument as well. So this was a real challenge, but I think it did produce so awesome results, yes he lost the stand eventually, but a real pleasure and challenge.

Gig poster...

One of the best studios in South Wales is having a birthday party! And surprisingly enough I'm doing the poster, haven't finished it yet, but I'm not sure as to whether I am happy with the text yet.

I don't know whether or not its finished, but I have done 5 different drafts of this, changed the details, started again once or twice and now I like it. This was a really odd bit of design as the gig is a real mish-mash of bands, electro-indie-pop, post harcore/emo, rap (nu) metal and straight up hardcore!!! So visual had to be fairly non-descript.

I think the first set is better, but I still think I could change the text to something completely different!

After a late night internet chat client said he liked the second one, so second one it is!!

Recycling!

Is it a compliment when you are faced with photos you wern't particularly fussed on being used in some way? I guess it is!

Well, I have posted photos of this band before and I was genuinely happy with the results I got. However if I know the band I will always try and give them the photos on a CD purely for their own records, no matter how out of focus, blurry, messy, etc. the photos are. They may well see something in there that will make them smile a long time after, so I try.

But in this case it's something different, photos I wasn't sure of being used for a bit of design! So congratulations to Jon Greenwood and This Hidden Switch for some "grade A" recycling!!!

Kris Roe Poster!!

This was a realy exciting project to take part in as I have spent one whole lot of time listening to the Ataris! So to design a poster for a show that involves the singer guitarist for one of your favourite pop punk bands is just amazing!!!!

Once again with this one I've been looking at Scott Hansen, and got inspired. This was a different process as I had a large amount of detail that needed to be included, pictures, logos, details...so to get creative visually was a part of the fun!!!

This was a cool one to do, because I used some of the techniques I got from a Scott Hansen tutorial with computer arts in photoshop and then some of my own ideas in illustrator. First time I've programme hopped on a piece in ages.

But here are the result as I went through them.

i thought that the rainbow across the image was a step too far, as looked a bit busy, so...



Now on reflection, the text was all a bit samey, soo...



will it look better with the added detail?



maybe not, I thought it was important to look at the text the other way round...





again it looks different, but I think the continuity of the top text being venue detail, and the price/date info being a different doesn't make good sense.

As always with me, you have to look to black and white...





I had to change the contrast, as just a clean greyscale switch didn't work, so I upped the contrast a little so it was the details were clearer.

At this point I was happy with any of these really, but I prefered it without the extra detail, but this is work, not art! So it's not about what I think.

I sent it off to the client, and he had one addition and chose this...





and thats that! I think it looks good and serves the purpose! Infact I am really happy with the end result, and yes I am rather excited about the gig as well!

Same shit different day...



It would appear that InDesign's JPEG colour bias is different to Photoshop...

A New Day, also because they are awesome boys!

It's all about me!!

Sometimes the most important person is yourself, and I think I had forgotten that, whilst it's not the most important method of getting the word out and social networking anymore, but still an important one, I thought I would give my myspace a spring clean and a fresh new look!

I've been working on a myspace for a label about to re-launch, and learnt lots about coding and rather than just stitching shit together and hoping, I actually learnt what I was doing! So here it comes! The re-jigged re-styled Michael Partridge's myspace!!



I'll probably make a new gif thing later, they look good!

I am rather happy with the top banner and the new logo's that I did, new font's etc...

An exciting happening!

So after 2 years of having a broken hard drive, that contained ALL of my degree work, thanks to a lovely lovely and very technologically mind friend I have it back!!! So I feel rather happy after a few hours sat around with the forgotten work, I feel proud as I can clearly see my improvements, and in a few cases I have been reminded of the wonder that is a good idea! No matter the technological skill level, it was a good idea!

So I am rather excited right now, that there could be a lot of old stuff that I am rather proud of re-surfacing!

Lyrics and Art

Well something has been bothering me over the last few weeks and I didn't quite know how to deal with it, so rather than do nothing I made something that get it off my chest.

This piece is made using lyrics from one of my favourite bands ever, most people have never heard of them, and probably never will. They split up in 1999 and have vanished off the face of the earth ever since, that always makes me a little sad. But they recorded some amazing songs regardless. The band in question is Farside.



This was the original version, when I had finally got all the layers together I wasn't sure about the green background so...



I made it a little "greener", but still I wasn't sure if that was right...



Try again, this is good too.



But this is probably my favourite, maybe if I'd made the green more shocking from the start? Who knows?

The reason I do everything this way is so people can see my ideas and tell me what they prefer....
