Something I should have posted ages ago!

I spent the best part of 6 months working on this, seriously 6 months! Not constantly, but it was a long time from the first photo to the sending off stages.

I will give some explanation of this, as I am happy to explain; Peachfuzz are an amazing rock band from Bridgend, they needed artwork for their album, they asked me to do it. I have know Peachfuzz for some years, and I would describe their sound as similar to the Lemonheads and the Replacements, you know the wonderous branch of rock that fills you with happy thoughts of summer and the perfect soundtrack to a beautiful holiday...

When I listened to their record(s) I think of a soundtrack to a summer film based in a run down theme park, if we are being stereotypical I would say Coney Island, NY, this all got me thinking about a chapter from Mitch Albom's "The 5 People You Meet in Heaven", the lead character arrives in the afterlife to be greeted by a carnival freak who's idea of heaven is Coney Island (where he worked) without people to point and shout at him. "But these guys are from Bridgend in south Wales" I hear you say, so I decided to take advantage of the dilapidated south Wales seaside!

I spent an afternoon in November in Penarth, an afternoon in January in Porthcawl and an afternoon in Barry Island in February. the hardest part of getting good quality/brightly lit photos in Wales in the winter is waiting for the day where the sun was out and the sky was clear. If you know Welsh weather at all, you know how rare this is! I'm not lying when I say some of these photos were taken in a scarf and gloves!

One day I will get the enormous InDesign files off my external hardrive and posting them here, I swear!

These 2 made me smile as well...

Beach Break Live 2010

Not so long ago I was invited to go to Beach Break Live as a photographer by the marketing department of Visit Wales. Now I don't mean to sound overly grateful, but I will say I got to go to a music festival, that was right on a beach, that was full of ready to party, partially naked 20ish students...sometimes life is very hard.

Not many of the 400ish pictures ended up on the blog for Visit Wales, but they are supposed to have a flickr and facebook, so there could well be more on there...

It was an interesting job as I we (me and the writer) decided we didn't want to try and present it in a "Hey, Beach Break Live is the best thing to happen in Wales ever!" way, but more just to document our time at the festival. So I give you my pics...

This little gem isn't on the blog post, but I filmed it and feel the need to share it!

It's amazing what Photoshop can do...

..with a little know how and a bright idea!

I get bored sometimes, more to the point I get a little distracted when I should probably be working...(Frazer, if you are reading this, expect an email soon)

I did a bit of generic stock hunting for a logo I'm working on right now, I wanted the buildings for a texture, but got a little distracted when I started playing with the levels.

Photobucket

So here we go folks generico stock imagio. Just a city skyline, nothing special.

This is almost a half assed tutorial, but tweak your levels, turn reds up, greens down, blues up, then just play some more. I noticed an almost complete change to the feel of the image, it felt different, it was warmer, more worn looking, the colours were washed out, I liked it more already.

I thought to myself this isn't enough, so added these...

all of these image layers were changed to overlay and then opacity jerked down to around the 30% mark.

And you are left with...

Photobucket

Which is far easier on the eyes don't you think?

NB: Some of these images are mine, some are from stock sites, some are from CD's from mags, I doubt anyone will notice or mind that I have uploaded them to my photobucket, however if you do have a problem, tell me and POOF they will be gone.

Time to send some emails....

A sad farewell (and a lot of photos)!

Well it was a month or 2 ago now (I've had a dissertation to write), but Bristol's No Warning Shot called it a day after 6 years of doing their thing. I went to the gig with friends Chains of Hate and must confess, I had a grand old time!

This is going to be a bit of a rarity for me, I'm not going to present this in a band by band thing, I going to post it all chronologically so you get some idea about how the night went. There are a few more photos of one band, but that's because as great as they were, they didn't inspire the Mosh!! So I concentrated on taking photos!

But great night all round!
