How am i supposed to feel about this?

Edit: This issue has now been resolved. And there are now no hard feelings between me and Darren @ Regal Clothing. This post was made when I was rather angry, and I would like to re-enforce that this issue is solved, and I have left this post up so that perhaps this doesn't happen to me again and perhaps it can serve as a warning? I don't know....

I've been a member of emptees for a while now, and it has been a great source of inspiration, a great place to get some help and critique, amongst countless other things. The one thing that has always entertained me has been watching as amazing designers, (godmachine, mumford, jimiyo, collision theory, nicole nimmor...) reaction to crazy kids from the far east use vector tracing to steal their work.

It is amazing to see these guys who are so talented, see the funny side in people stealing their work. I will always remember one post where an artist seem to see it as his right of passage that someone had stolen his work!! The strange acceptance that at some point someone will steal your work and the best hope you've got is to just laugh about it, is amazing.

Well if that is the case then I have arrived, rather sadly.

I did this design whilst I was in uni, it wasn't appropriate for the project I was working on so it was just shelved for the best part of 5 years. I joined emptees and it seemed like a great place to start as it would make a neat little shirt design.

Photobucket

Here is the design as I posted on emptees 3 months ago.

I recently joined Design Forums, wicked message board, and one of their features is a portfolio/slideshow on their page, which members upload and images are selected at random, and I saw part of my design on a tshirt on there!

Now this was a bit of a suprise, as I followed the link to a company/guy who had shown interest in buying the original design and he had just plain copied it!

Photobucket

Now I'm not going to post links to all the relevant places here, but I have yet to react to this properly.

Time to go...

Textures...

Well I've got loads, things I've downloaded and stitched together with something I found on the floor on my way home one night, photos I've taken...

Basically, I did a tutorial on pulling these elements together for a better result and here is my first one...

Photobucket

I'm going to start a folder/catagory for it now, and as I make them, I'll just post them, if you use them bonus (tell me though), if you see it in the background of something I've made, there might be a prize involved....

Update

Whilst February may have been quite on the (completed) design front March is in it's infancy and already offered a nice little start!

Well I'll put it simply:

BUY MY SHIRT!!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Really, it is a satisfying feeling to make a design, win a competition and see it up for sale! The design has changed a little, but that's ok...

Quiet??

Well I have been and I'm not going to deny it! February has been a quiet month, but I (hopefully) have 2 jobs coming in soon, so fingers crossed there will be something to look at on here!!!

Well, one job I am chasing is with one of Cardiff's finest hiphop acts/band/crew/whatever...

Photobucket

I did this logo as a bit of a treatment, we'll see what they think. If they like it, I'm sure there will be some more stuff relating to them soon.

Technics Competition....

Well, not much to add apart from the fact that I won! Which all in all is pretty dam sick!

See for yourself

Much respect to the other winner Josh, click here to see his emptees portfolio.

"We had so many brilliant and innovative designs entered into the competition that we had trouble picking between the final 5. In the end, we settled for two winners so congratulations goes to Josh Ray for his Technics (S)Platter style T-Shirt and also Michael Partridge for his innovative "We Are As One" design. Your prizes are on their way to you gents!! "

I have always like admitting to process, so here we go...

Photobucket

First version of the vectors, yes the grouping went haywire on the ghettoblaster, but that is only a rough.

Photobucket

First drawing from vectors, no idea why I had that font on there, but it looked shit, so that was the first change, generally pretty happy with the rest of it though, this is where I first tried the idea of connecting the parts, but I just wasn't sold on how they were connected through the drawing, so attempt number 2....

Photobucket

Print out 2, this time with a different logo, I'm not entirely sure why I printed it out again, made sense at the time...

Photobucket

I've always loved a musician called Jonah Matranga, he performs under the name of OneLineDrawing, so this is what I tried here, but just didn't work on this format! It just looks messy.

I am not going to lie to you, I had a version I was pretty happy with, but needed to figure out the best way to finish this off, I need a new version of the logo and the last part of my idea...

Photobucket

So I drew the logo on the side of one of the other pieces of paper, and drew the hands again, this time with the fingers extending and at this stage I cheated. I stopped drawing and started photoshoping...

And the rest is history, design finito!

Photobucket

Some paper, 2 print outs, a pencil, a lightbox in my (well my girlfriend's) desk, a scanner and a good idea. Makes me happy!

I am rather happy with this one....

Self Portrait...

So this idea is actually for something bigger, than just this, maybe, I don't know yet, I haven't finished it, I just want to post it to see how I felt, if I posted it on the net and then went to bed, to mull it over and finish/come back to it later.

So here we have some hardwork on my part and the mad skills of Mei @ Mission Photographic, I'm not going to disclose too much detail yet, so I'll just say I wanted to look a bit silly, and we had a funny afternoon getting some photos!

Here is the original image...

Photobucket

and here is the result of several hours work...

Photobucket

Well I don't know if I'm barking up the wrong bush or should wait until its finished?

Episode of "The Wire" and bed.
